Can I apply Terrastone on tiles?

Yes, this is possible. However, before Terrastone plaster is applied to tiles, we recommend the following work steps:

Cleaning the tiles with Pufas Anlauger.

Washing the tiles thoroughly

Level the tiles with Pufaplast V30 surface and spot filler. This highly-modified filler adheres directly to tiles.

Prime surfaces with Pufas Putzgrund weiß.

Afterwards, the Terrastone products can be applied with the desired technique.

Can I also fill over painted tiles?

As described above, you can proceed in the same way with tiles that have already been painted. However, it is important to check in advance whether the paint is firmly adhered to the substrate.

You can easily test this with a cross-cut test.

The cross-cut test works as follows:

Use a craft knife to cut a grid measuring approx. 3x3 cm into the paint, down to the substrate. The distance between the individual grid lines should be between 2-3 mm. Then stick masking tape onto the grid and pull it off quickly. If no more than approx. 15% of the paint sticks to the tape, the paint is sufficiently adherent.

If it is not firmly adherent, you must remove the paint before proceeding as described above.

Important note:
This article refers to wall tiles. Floor tiles must be treated differently. Here, we recommend a substrate structure with a floor system such as Thomsit, PCI or Ardex. Terrastone Floor can then be applied to this substrate. You can find the structure for this here: Terrastone on the floor
