Can I do anything about an open wallpaper seam?

This article explains what to do with an open wallpaper seam.

The wall is wallpapered but some wallpaper seams are open. What can be done now to fix the mistake?

Although there is no way to close the seam after drying, there are several ways to significantly improve the result afterwards.

The main issue with an open wallpaper seam is usually that with coloured wallpaper the white background shows through or the white backing paper of the wallpaper is visible. Therefore, you should try to match the backing paper and the background with the open seam to the colour of the wallpaper. Here we have had positive experiences with coloured pencils or felt-tip pens as well as ink colour.

As a rule, the procedures make the suture visually disappear.

Conceal open seams with coloured pencils or felt-tip pens

Trace the seam with a coloured pencil or felt-tip pen in the appropriate colour. Important: Test on an inconspicuous area beforehand.

Conceal open seams with the help of an ink set or watercolours

Even better results are usually achieved with an ink set. Here, the seam should be repainted with a fine brush in the appropriate colour and the ink should be carefully dabbed on the wallpaper with a lint-free cloth. It is also very important here to test in an inconspicuous place first and let it dry!

As a rule, the suture is then no longer perceptible to the eye.

It is also very important here to test the whole thing on an inconspicuous area first and allow it to dry!

With a little distance, the seam is no longer visible!

In this example, the "paint box" method was used: a colour that roughly matched the leaf tone was mixed and applied to the seam. The excess colour was then removed from the seam with a damp cloth and dried with a dry cloth.

In this case, the seam was not open, only the white backing material of the non-woven wallpaper shone through. If this is the case, the seam can always be retouched perfectly.

In the next case, however, the seam is actually open.

In this example, in addition to the open wallpaper seam, the colour in the inside corner was wiped away during wallpapering. When wallpapering when the wallpaper is damp, dark colours should only be pressed on carefully!

The colour wiped away in the inside corner could be retouched with ink paint. At least an improvement could be achieved on the open wallpaper seam.
