Usable Fabric Width
The usable fabric width may differ from the manufactured width due to selvedges and print widths.
Fabrics are manufactured in a defined overall width. This overall width includes the so-called selvedge.
Due to the manufacturing process, the selvedge has a significantly denser and stronger woven structure than the actual usable area of the fabric. Since it is not suitable for further processing, it must be removed before processing.
As a result, the so-called usable width is derived from the overall fabric width and represents the width actually available for cutting and processing.
For patterned fabrics, the usable width may also be limited by the print width or the woven width of the pattern. In these cases, the usable width does not correspond to the total manufactured width of the fabric, but rather to the actually printed and processable area or to the width of the woven pattern.
