Explanation of terms and notes on the sewing service

How exactly is the order size specified?

We need the ‘finished measurements’ from you as the order size. The height is always measured from the top edge of the head to the bottom edge of the hem. The width is given in whole and half lengths of fabric, or in 10cm increments for full-length items.

Terms relating to the fabrics:

Head

In the case of a curtain, the term ‘header’ refers to the upper edge or top of the curtain, which is designed in different sizes to be hung in a device such as a curtain pole or rail.

Pelmet

In a Roman blind, the pelmet at the bottom often refers to the decorative finish at the bottom edge of the blind. This is a reinforced, sometimes decorated hem that rounds off the blind visually and gives it stability.

Store (also Stores)

in the context of curtains: a translucent curtain that covers the entire width of the window surface

Inbetween

Inbetween literally means ‘in between’. This means that the thickness of the fabric is between opaque and transparent. It is also called ‘semi-transparent’.  Inbetweens are usually made from polyester yarns because they are strong and flexible. These curtains have a certain transparency.
